Peter and the Wolf
Music: Sergei Prokofiev
“Peter and the Wolf” is a musical fairy tale that was written in 1936. Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev composed the piece for the Moscow Children’s Theater and wrote the accompanying text.
The musical fairy tale is about Peter, who lives on the edge of the forest with his grandfather and his animals—a cat, a bird, and a duck. Despite his grandfather’s warnings, Peter forgets to close the garden gate one day. The prowling wolf seizes his chance and eats the duck. The wolf would love nothing more than to devour the cat and bird as his main course, and Peter on top of that. But Peter is quicker and climbs up the nearest tree to safety. Because the bird distracts the wolf, Peter manages to free himself and his friends from their predicament and catch the villain with a noose. The wolf survives and is taken to the nearby zoo.
